ACCIONA Agua has been named Water Company of the Year by Global Water Intelligence (GWI) magazine. The award recognises the Company’s achievements in 2016 and its contribution to the development of the international water sector.
Global Water Intelligence is the world’s most prestigious publication in the water market; the Global Water Awards are based on votes by over 14,000 industry professionals and experts.
Voters rated ACCIONA Agua’s expansion in a number of international markets, such as Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Canada and the Middle East, through major water treatment contracts.
They included the design and construction, and the operation and maintenance for one year, of the Putatan 2 potable water plant (Philippines); replacement of the water distribution system in Saint John (Canada); expansion of the Eastern Aqueduct in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic); and the entry into service of the Ras Abu Fontas-3 plant in Qatar. The latter is a milestone in desalination worldwide as it is the first large-scale application of reverse osmosis in Qatar, which had previously only used evaporation for desalination.
They also considered ACCIONA Agua’s automation and implementation of remote control for four water distribution networks in Morocco (Settat, Nador, Meknes and Ifrane and their surrounding areas), crossing northern Morocco from west to east and serving approximately 5.3 million people. Voters also rated ACCIONA’s participation in a number of European innovation projects in the industry.
