Extensive experience in the water sector and a long list of international projects

Amplia experiencia en el sector del agua y numerosos proyectos internacionales

In this article, we take a look at the extensive experience of Abengoa in the water sector. The company has a long track record and references for facilities with a real treatment capacity of almost 5,000,000 m3 of water per day. We take this opportunity to look at some of the water treatment plants managed by Abengoa.

Thanks to its great experience in the water sector, Abengoa offers municipal and industrial clients innovative technological solutions to tackle water challenges, including scarcity and contamination of natural resources. For this purpose, the company implements solutions based on the potabilisation and desalination of seawater and brackish water, the purification and reuse of urban wastewater, and the treatment and reuse of industrial effluents. In the municipal market, Abengoa implements drinking water treatment, purification, desalination and reuse solutions at facilities with a total capacity of 4.4 million cubic metres.

In the drinking water market, Abengoa boasts references for facilities with a capacity of over 1.7 million m3/day, the equivalent of the water needs of 8.5 million people worldwide. In October 2014, Abengoa completed a pioneering water supply project in the city of San Antonio (Texas, USA). The Vista Ridge project consisted of the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of new wells, pumping stations, natural water collection systems, storage tanks and a 225-km (142 mile) pipeline, all of which form part of the city’s water supply infrastructure. This project has a total treatment capacity of 168,970 m3/day and will satisfy the water needs of the residents of San Antonio, a city whose population is growing at a rate of 20,000 per year. The project will also help to protect the ecosystem supported by the Edwards aquifer.
