Ferrovial Services will treat the waste from street cleaning in the municipalities that make up the metropolitan area for the next three years. The contract is worth over €23 M.
El Área Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) has awarded Ferrovial Services the contract for the treatment of street cleaning waste from the municipalities that make up the metropolitan area and those that surround the Catalan capital. The area envisaged in the contract is divided into two sectors, the Llobregat sector and the Besòs sector.
The contract, divided into two lots according to sectors, is valued at 23.22 million euros (including VAT) and will run for three years, with an option for an extension of a maximum of one further year. The service, which has already commenced, includes the transfer of waste from street cleaning operations, litter bins and container overflows generated in the municipalities that make up the metropolitan area to Ferrovial Services’ industrial waste treatment plants, located in Zona Franca (Lot 1) and Mollet del Vallés (Lot 2).
It is estimated that 52,000 tonnes of waste per annum will be treated from Lot 1 municipalities: Barcelona (south), Castelldefels, Cornellá, El Prat de Llobregat, L´Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Viladecans, Sant Viçenc del Horts, Cervelló, Esplugas de Llobregat, Santa Coloma de Cervelló and Sant Joan de Espí; while 22,000 tonnes per annum will be treated from Lot 2 municipalities: Barcelona (north), Badalona, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Sant Cugat del Vallés, Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Montcada and Cerdanyola del Vallés.
