MITECO launch €200 M aid programme to digitalise urban supply and improve water efficiency

This is the first call for proposals associated with the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) programme for the Digitalisation of the Urban Water Cycle and it is aimed at municipalities and associations of municipalities with populations of over 20,000. Grants of between 3 million and 10 million euros, or 60% and 90% of the total budget, will be available for selected projects. There is a deadline of 90 working days for the submission of project proposals and all authorities with water management competences, including public and private utilities, can participate.

Canal de Isabel II has registered the Vigía System in the Madrid intellectual property registry, in order to guarantee recognition of the ownership and operating rights for this asset. Vigía is the largest COVID-19 tracking and early warning system developed in Spain to date, in terms of both the number of sampling points (289) and the population studied. The system covers the 179 municipalities of the region, which have a total population of 6.8 million.
