ECOLUM foundation quadruples collection in Canary Islands

Within the public sector

On February 9 of this year, the ECOLUM Foundation entered into a Cooperation Agreement with the Department of the Environment of the Municipal Council of Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura), led by Alejo Soler, for the collection of waste lighting.

This agreement seeks to create a framework of cooperation between the local body and the ECOLUM Foundation for the regulation of the conditions for collection of the WEEE generated by the Department or subcontracted companies as a result of maintenance and/or renovation operations associated with street lighting, light fittings from municipal buildings, etc.

“Lanzarote Recicla” returns

In other news, ECOLUM is once again participating in the “Lanzarote Recicla” communication and collection campaign. In recent years, the Lanzarote Island Council has undertaken a number of different initiatives to foster the culture of WEEE separation, with the aim of increasing recycling rates and recovering the different fractions of which WEEE is composed.

The initiatives currently being carried out seek to lend continuity to a campaign that commenced in 2016, a year which saw the creation of a Capillary Network of WEEE selective collection points throughout Lanzarote. The present project seeks to promote citizen participation in the separation of small waste electrical and electronic equipment.
