The Grupo Aguas de Valencia, through its Seasa subsidiary, recently commenced the management of three new WWTPs in the province of Zaragoza, having submitted the winning bid in a public procurement process.
The two-year contract, which can be extended for a further two years, is for the management of the WWTPs of Calatayud, the province’s second-largest city, Ateca and Carramolina. Total annual wastewater treatment in these three urban centres is estimated at 2.8 million cubic metres.
Securing the contracts for these new WWTPs in the province ofZaragoza reinforces the presence of the group in Aragón, where it already manages 15 facilities in Huesca and 5 in Teruel. Last year, the company treated a total of almost 3 million cubic metres, thereby helping to improve wastewater quality in the region.
The Grupo Aguas de Valencia is currently coordinating the European LIFE ECODIGESTION project, which seeks to increase the production of biogas as a renewable energy through recycling waste from the agro-food industry, thereby helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This initiative, “Automatic control system to add organic waste in anaerobic digesters of WWTPs to maximize the biogas asrenewable energy” was selected for grant aid within the LIFE+ 2013 programme. The project is co-funded by the EU and has a scheduled duration of 36 months.
