This week saw Greene Waste to Energy joining the Distrito Digital Comunidad Valenciana technology hub, an ecosystem made up of companies with a firm commitment to innovation and technology headquartered in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. The two organisations have entered into an agreement whereby Greene Waste to Energy, an Elche-based company specialising in energy recovery from waste through gasification, will join Distrito Digital as a partner and continue working to attract investment and talent from the new economy and digital companies.
Greene’s waste-to-energy technology thus becomes part of the ecosystem of Distrito Digital, a Valencian Regional Government body whose goal is to transform the region into a leading location in terms of attracting and creating innovative technological companies. Distrito Digital aims to foster a new business ecosystem that enhances the employability of qualified staff, retains the talent generated and makes it possible for professionals to remain within its environment and contribute to the growth, improvement and sustainability of a new drive towards modernisation, in addition to supporting innovation projects carried out by companies belonging to Distrito Digital.
Greene Waste to Energy CEO, Juan José Hernández, believes that “it is an opportunity to create synergies with other technology-based companies”. He points out that Greene offers a mature, efficient technology with very competitive investment costs that responds to the need to manage and dispose of different types of waste, such as municipal solid waste (MSW), industrial waste, biomass and sewage sludge, which have high waste management and energy (heat and electricity) costs. This technology also helps to reduce dependency on oil and petroleum-derived products. Greene waste-to-energy plants facilitate waste disposal and improve the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of organisations that implement them, whilst promoting the circular economy with extremely low investment costs and minimal risk.
