WWNO – Optimisation of combined sewer overflows (CSO)

Combined sewer overflows are a growing problem for cities around the world. With more severe rainfall events expected due to climate change, solving this critical water challenge is more important than ever. Xylem Wastewater Network Optimisation (WWNO) is a real-time decision support system (RT-DSS) that uses smart sewer technology to give water utilities better visibility of the performance and capacity utilisation of their sewer system assets, enabling water leaders to optimise service levels whilst saving money, reducing risk and protecting the environment. Using a combination of sensors and weather data, digital twin technology and optimisation algorithms, Xylem’s WWNO helps water utilities dramatically reduce combined sewer overflows (CSO), detect sewer blockages, minimise flooding events and identify sources of infiltration and inflow (I&I) in order to ensure compliance using existing infrastructure.
