The Autonomous Community of Valencia is a region with a deficit in water resources. This makes it necessary to optimise water use through the building of infrastructure to enable sanitation, treatment and reuse of water. For this reason, the Government of Valencia, through the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Water, has undertaken this initiative, which will enable the transfer of excess treated water from the Ibi and Castalla WWTPs for subsequent use in irrigation by the Virgen de la Paz de Agost irrigation community. This community oversees an irrigable area of 1,800 hectares and has difficulties in terms of sufficient available water resources.
The initiative has a total budget of €3.7 million and is scheduled for completion within a period of 12 months.
The work consists of the construction of a regulating tank and complementary facilities at the Ibi WWTP, as well as the building of the hydraulic infrastructure required to interconnect the Ibi and Castalla plants with the existing Santa Eulalia-Agost pipeline.
Saint-Gobain PAM España participated in this connection work, through the supply of 5,502 m of DN 500 mm C25 and 300 m DN 400 mm C30 ductile iron pipes from the PAM Irrigal range.
PAM Irrigal is the green ductile iron pipe for agricultural irrigation. It enables water savings by eliminating the risk of losses and increases efficiency in water transport and distribution, thanks to the proven watertightness of the Standard joint. This pipe union, along with the extraordinary mechanical properties of ductile iron, makes for robust piping systems with flexible behaviour capable of withstanding unfavourable operating conditions and terrains, without becoming damaged. Further benefits include: ease of assembly and installation, making installation costs lower than those associated with other materials; a life of over 50 years without deterioration of any properties; and resistance to heavy road traffic, all of which make this range the optimum solution in its field.
