On June 13 last, Spain and Peru held a monitoring committee meeting to discuss details of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on water resources entered into by the two countries. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of State for the Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Affairs (MAGRAMA), Pablo Saavedra, and the Peruvian Vice-minister of Agricultural and Irrigation Infrastructure and Development, Jorge Luis Montenegro.
The committee agreed to continue promoting collaboration initiatives between the two countries in the area of water. The MAGRAMA gave a commitment to support the holding of an event on integrated management of water resources and river basin planning in Peru, as well as a programme on rainwater harvesting and irrigation technology.
Spain will also provide technical assistance for the development of dam legislation in Peru and for the identification and reinforcement of water sources in the river basins of the Ica region.
