United Nations names Canal de Isabel II global benchmark operator in water and renewable energy management

The objective is to export and share successful experiences developed by Canal for sustainable development.

The partnership will support the Global Sustainable Water and Energy Solutions Network.

The United Nations has selected Canal de Isabel II as a global benchmark operator in water and energy management, making the publicly owned company a leading international player in sustainable development. The company and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) have entered into a technical cooperation agreement to work together on the fulfilment and integration of water and energy goals..

The cooperation agreement primarily seeks an integrated, cross-sectoral approach to action on clean water and sanitation and affordable, clean energy. Therefore, the partnership between Canal de Isabel II and DESA will support the Sustainable Water and Energy Solutions Network.

The goals of this agreement include increasing the capacity of governments, administrations, institutions and companies to effectively manage the symbiosis between “water and energy”, improving knowledge management, facilitating the exchange of good practices and promoting global dissemination of this nexus. For this purpose, documents and best practice guides will be drawn up over the coming years, based on the management experience of Canal de Isabel II.
