The upgrading of the “Las Marinas” CITR required total investment of more than 37 million euros. The work carried out encompasses enhancement of the waste sorting and recovery process, the installation of a new automated organic fraction composting system and a new refining facility, and improvements to the odour control systems. The goal of this project is to endow the “Las Marinas” CITR with the cuttingedge technology and equipment needed to maximise materials recovery and achieve compliance with European legislation. The upgrading project also seeks to address the climatic emergency and to achieve com-pliance with the Integrated Environmental Authorisation, which requires the installation of an automated turning system for the composting of selectively collected organic waste (SCOW) and part of the non-selectively collected organic fraction (OFMSW). The CITR has a biological treatment plant with sufficient capacity to treat the OFMSW, SCOW and green waste.
